My Oscar Test in Singapore at Thomson Diagnostic Imaging Centre.

The doctor scheduled an Oscar test for me on 15 Feb at Thomson medical center. I preferred a morning appointment but could not get, so I went without an appointment at 8:00 am as my nurses suggested me that if u would go early they would attend you first as there will be no patient waiting around.

what is OSCAR TEST?

Oscar test is generally done to find any fetal abnormalities especially trisomy 21 which is (down syndrome), trisomy 13 (Patau Syndrome), trisomy 18(Edwards syndrome), and neural tube defects in their unborn child. It is usually done between 11 weeks to 14 weeks pregnancy.

Oscar test is a combined test which includes 2 tests.

1) NT Scan (Nuchal Translucency Scan) – They test a fluid at the back of the neck of the baby.

2) Blood test – Maternal serum biochemistry is included to get most accurate results. This blood test measures the level of free beta-hCG and PAPP-A(Pregnancy-associated plasma Protein A). Babies with Down syndrome has high levels of free beta-hCG and low levels of PAPP-A.

OSCAR TEST AT Thomson Diagnostic Imaging Centre

We reached there by 8:15 am and first of all, I take a token from the reception. I opted a package of Oscar test + fetal anatomy Scan which cost me around 520 SGD at Thomson imaging center. If we go through only Oscar test, the cost is around 345 SGD. You can download the e-brochure for a detailed information of Oscar scan in Singapore at Thomson Diagnostic Imaging Centre.

We were waiting in front of the token screen and I drank one full glass of water. They called us in 15 minutes for a scan. I was 12 weeks 3 days pregnant on that day. It took almost 20 minutes for my NT scan because my baby was moving a lot and the sonographer could not take the image of the NT fold.

My NT fold was measuring 1.6mm.which is quite normal as NT of less than 3.5mm is considered normal.
She measured around 12-14 times to confirm the thickness. In addition to that, they also took a scan of the fetal anatomy and measure important lengths of the fetal body.

After that, they call me for a blood test and I was free in 10 minutes. So I will advise to take morning appointment and go as early as possible. Try to reach by 8:00 am, whatever is your appointment time and they will entertain you early if other patients will not arrive. I was free in 35-40 minutes in total.

I got my results 2 days later and here I am sharing my results.

Free beta-hCG-  2.58 MoM

PAPP-A-  0.66 MoM

NT(Nuchal Translucency) – 1.6 mm

Nasal bone– 2 mm

CRL (Crown Rump Length)– 61.8 mm

FHR(Fetal Heart Rate)– 159bpm

I discussed it with the doctor, he also ensures me about the results, keeping me at low risk.
